Past: Overcoming Loneliness and Health Struggles

Miranda Yu’s journey to the care home began during a challenging period when she faced both the emotional and physical toll of living alone. Battling chronic illness while residing in an Assisted Living facility provided by BC Housing, her days were often marked by loneliness and the struggle to manage her declining health on her own. During a hospitalization at Vancouver General Hospital, while she was unconscious, her brother made the decision to arrange her transfer to long-term care — a transition that would profoundly change her life.

Present: Life of Gratitude and Contribution

Today, Miranda speaks with deep gratitude for the new chapter she’s living at the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Simon K.Y. Lee Seniors Care Home. No longer isolated, she is surrounded by compassionate staff and a supportive community. She has made new friends and reconnected with old ones, finding both comfort and companionship.

Miranda’s involvement goes beyond simply being a resident. Encouraged by the recreation team, she joined the singing group, which has become a source of joy and empowerment. Recently, she was invited to perform at a fundraising concert to support the renewal of the care home’s dental facility, contributing her voice to support the place she now calls home. For Miranda, it’s not just about receiving care but also about giving back and becoming an active part of the care home community.

A bright spot in her day remains Fiona, the Recreation Therapist, whose warm smile motivates her to participate in various activities. Miranda continues to embrace new opportunities, thriving under the heartful care and encouragement of the staff.

Future: Hope for More Support

Looking to the future, Miranda is grateful for the exceptional care she receives. She hopes that, with more resources and support from the community, the care home can continue to expand its services, allowing more people to be benefited from the same high quality of care that has enriched her life.

To those who support the care home, whether donors or volunteers, Miranda offers her heartfelt thanks. She believes that, with their help, even more lives will be touched by the compassionate care the home provides.
